You may want more information about your early life or birth family history. You may want advice about contacting a member of your birth family. You may wish to speak to someone about issues to do with your adoption. You may want to meet other adopted people. The Adoption Agencies in SWAAC offer support services which may include:

  • counselling for adopted adults who wish to find out more about their origins and who may wish to go on to trace their birth family.
  • counselling for adopted adults on any issues to do with their adoption
  • opportunities – such as workshops and other events where adopted people can meet each other
  • someone to provide a link between you and your birth family.

Some agencies work with specialist independent agencies who can offer additional services.

If you are adopted and are aged 18 or under

You may already know about your early life and your birth family history. However much you know, you may have more questions that your adopters cannot answer. You may wish to speak to someone about issues to do with your adoption. You may want to meet other adopted young people. You should always try to discuss any problems with your adoptive parents. If you are not able to do this or feel that you need further help, please contact the adoption team in the local authority where you live or the agency that dealt with your adoption.

There are lots of services available for young people
